January 6 – February 13, 2026
A six-week online workshop for those who want to hear a fresh word from God, gather wisdom and support from others, and do the work your soul must have.*
This workshop is an invitation for you…
To remember your call—by name, by baptism, by grace.
To excavate your story—to hear God’s voice again.
To discern what is yours to do— and get support to do it!

What if you could treat yourself to a deep-dive into your call – for this season of your life, for this moment in time?
This workshop is a 6-week intensive designed to offer you rich prayer experiences, wise community mentors, and skills to bring God’s vision for you into ever clearer focus.
*”Do the work your soul must have,” ~ Dr. Katie Cannon pioneered the field of womanist discourse and ministry — creating a much-needed space where black women could do God-talk and think through their lives and faith in a space that was not hemmed in by whiteness or patriarchy. Her oft-quoted phrase “to do the work your soul must have” is itself a kind of invitation and command. For those of us seeking to pursue vocations that don’t always follow traditional paths, we might find these words encouraging us to remember: we have been called. By name. By baptism. Through grace and experience. To vocations that are not narrowly imagined or realized.
The rhythm:
Sunday – Receive the weekly theme + prompt
Monday – optional Zoom prayer + large group sharing (12p or 8p ET)
Tuesday – Post your written reflection to the week’s robust prompt (700 words)
Wednesday – Meet with your small learning group live on zoom (12p or 8p ET)
Thursday – Read and offer feedback to cohort members
Friday – Integrate your learning
Time commitment: 8–10 hours per week
Includes various prayer practices, writing, reading, live Zoom sessions, collaborative feedback, and optional spiritual direction. Reflective materials are grounded in Ignatian spirituality.
The workshop is a container for you. As with all things, you’ll get back what you put into it. Is this the season for you to dive deeply into your call? We can’t wait to join you.
Our commitment to you
We’re co-conspirators and co-laborers who walk along the way together. Coaches and spiritual directors will offer integral support for participants to get the most out of their time. Most of all, we offer a community. The history of DDS...
This workshop emerged out of one-to-ones and small group conversations with those interested in working to restore women to the ordained ministry of the diaconate in the Catholic Church. So in a particular way, if the question of women’s ministry is important for you, this is a space to go deeper. Maybe God is calling you to formal ministry and maybe God is calling you elsewhere. Let’s find out!
We seek participants who yearn for deep, spiritual community and who see themselves as community builders. We want to trust what is emerging and give you space to work on a project that has been on your heart for some time, but for which you haven’t had the space and support to really plot it out and move it into the world. Our desire is to help strengthen our collective work for church reform, by nurturing leaders and those who are discerning their place.
Discern, Dream, Scheme offered its first cohort in summer of 2020, and its second cohort in December 2020. This is a call for a third cohort.
