{"id":18627,"date":"2024-05-16T17:53:13","date_gmt":"2024-05-16T21:53:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/discerningdeacons.org\/?post_type=witness&#038;p=18627"},"modified":"2024-05-16T17:53:13","modified_gmt":"2024-05-16T21:53:13","slug":"carley-haselhorst","status":"publish","type":"witness","link":"https:\/\/discerningdeacons.org\/es\/witness\/carley-haselhorst\/","title":{"rendered":"Carley Haselhorst"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I was thirteen years old attending mass at my family\u2019s parish, our church\u2019s first deacon candidate spoke to the congregation explaining the diaconate role.\u00a0 For me this was a \u201cthat\u2019s what I want to be when I grow up\u201d moment. \u201cWomen can be deacons, too, right?,\u201d I asked my dad afterwards. He gently explained otherwise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet, over the years as I\u2019ve tried to find my place in the Church, the diaconate has remained my guiding light. I cannot imagine anything more exhilarating than embodying a bridge from the pulpit to the marginalized. When I attend ordinations or first masses of deacons, whether friends or strangers, my heart burns in joyful solidarity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I think that a female diaconate would be electric for our Church. Being engaged with the Synod on Synodality and Discerning Deacons\u2019 work within it has been one of the most energizing things I\u2019ve ever been a part of. Through our local Phoebe Circle\u2019s efforts to grow this conversation, I have met some of the most intelligent, visionary, compassionate, and faithful people, and I am filled with shockwaves of hope!<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Yet, over the years as I\u2019ve tried to find my place in the Church, the diaconate has remained my guiding light.
