Every September, hundreds of Catholic faith communities around the world celebrate the feast of Deacon St. Phoebe.
St. Phoebe Fall 2026
In 2024, Pope Francis proclaimed the Final Document of the Synod on Synodality to be magisterial teaching, including the historic Paragraph 60 on women’s leadership in the Church. Under Pope Leo, our Church has entered the 2025-2028 Synod Implementation Phase, where all of the baptized are called to implement the proposals of the Synod’s Final Document and to report back on their experiences of living into synodality. This fall, in honor of Deacon St. Phoebe, Discerning Deacons invites you and your community to engage in the Synod Implementation Phase through participating in St. Phoebe Fall. Together, Catholics near and far will pray, learn, and discern about the Church’s newest teachings on women and the live questions before us about women’s ministry leadership, as affirmed by the Synod’s Final Document.

Local St. Phoebe Educational Forums
A Phoebe Forum is a ready-made, 75-minute interactive educational gathering—lively, hope-filled, and faithful to Catholic teaching. It is designed to introduce a community to the history of the diaconate, the work of Discerning Deacons during the Synod on Synodality, and concrete ways to participate in the Church's ongoing discernment about women and the diaconate. Online St. Phoebe Listening Sessions
These large, facilitated online listening sessions gather the fruits of September's educational work and Phoebe Forums, channeling them into structured synodal input that will be collected, compiled, and carried by Discerning Deacons to the Vatican Synod Office and to bishops in 2027. This is an opportunity for people to share the fruits of their discernment about women's roles with church leaders during the Synod's Implementation Phase.
